Network Analysis of University of Ottawa MIS's professors

Preambule

This is a network or a graph diagram that shows which university each professors went to, either they are regular full-time, adjunct or part-time and cross-appointed professors

How does it Work ?

As you can see, there is a set of nodes of different size and colors.

  •    This color represents the university that most professors have in common. (UWO)
  •    This color represents a canadian university that offers a Master in Library and Information Studies program
  •    This color represents a university (canadian or not). In fact all the bigger nodes represents universities.
  •    This colors represents all professors for 2014-2015 year

As you can see (the yellow node) 5 professors went to the University of Western Ontario. Following up for 4 professors that attends McGill University.

What I do like about diagram it's that it will trigger questions. Why does UWO have the most attendances? Is UWO is the best school in IS in Canada? Where is UBC? Did UWO was the first university that offers MLIS program in Canada? If I add up all the professors that teaches in a Masters of Information Studies in Canada, will UWO will still be the one that most professors went to?

Keep in mind that Correlation does not imply causation. This visualization does not imply that UWO or McGill are the best university for a MLIS program neither that I'll have a better chance to get a job as a professor.

The program is available on my github if you would like to play with it
